India’s premier expo on intelligent lighting and LED solutions, Light India + LED Expo India’s 29thedition has opened its doors today at Yashobhoomi, IICC, Dwarka, Delhi. Hosting a grand showcase of innovative solutions in the lighting and LED industry. With 228 exhibitors and about 1,000+ brands, the current expo observes increased participation from lighting automation companies aligning with the growing needs of smart living, smart cities and rapid urbanisation.

During the inaugural ceremony, the expo witnessed presence of esteemed dignitaries from the industry:

  • Shri S.K. Marwaha, Group Coordinator, Scientist ‘G’, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
  • Shri Milind Deore, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Ministry of Power
  • Mr Jaspal Singh Aujla, Chief General Manager – Technical, Energy Efficiency Services Limited Mr Parag Bhatnagar, President, Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association of India
  • Mr Chinmay Debnath, President, Indian Building Congress
  • Mr Gajanand Ram, Vice President, Council of Architecture
  • Ms Surbhi Jindal, Ambassador, Women in Lighting
  • Dr Amardeep Dugar, Director at Large, Illuminating Engineering Society IES
  • Mr Asish Agarwal, President, Calcutta Electric Traders Association
  • Mr B S Parveen, Managinf Director, Uniglobus
  • Mr Praful Pathak, President, Solar Energy Society of India
  • Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd

Sharing his experience at the expo, Shri S.K. Marwaha, Group Coordinator, Scientist ‘G’, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India stated that: “As far as Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is concerned, we had put in several schemes like the compulsory registration order where the LED products have to meet the specified safety standards and we also provide the CAPEX subsidy under the modified Special Incentive Scheme for the product manufacturers, we also have Public Procurement Preference to Make In India order where in the government procurement –  subject to specified domestic value addition is done by the indigenous manufacturers.” He also stated that Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) actually played a key role in proliferation of the LED lighting by consolidating the requirements and that actually brought down the price of LED bulbs and over the years we have rationalized the tariff structure so that the cost of LED production comes down including taking advantage of the subsidy offered. This market is expected to grow in a big way particularly, in the new segments like architectural lighting. The industries are catering to the needs and architects and building experts, are all promoting the use of LED in the residential and commercial segment and this will definitely lead to a lot of power saving which naturally comes with a usage of LED. I wish LED expo a grand success and greater heights in the years to come.”

Expressing his views on the current and the future of LED lighting industry in India, Shri Milind Deore, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) – Ministry of Power, Government of India, stated: “In 2024 from what I am observing at the expo I see that the market is now shifting towards the aesthetic LED lamps as per consumer demands, the technology is evolving with more aesthetic orientation, different fixtures are coming in , smart lighting and more, have been coming in so this is a very radical and a great change in the sector. Also, today LED bulbs are not only in cities but are easily available in the rural areas and”. He also added: “The government needs focus on how we can be 100% indigenous in this sector. They are already focusing on semi-conductor manufacturing in India, once that is done, I think we can be fully indigenous in manufacturing LED and also export to the world. After China, I think India could be one of the best places to manufacturer at the cheaper rate and provide to other countries.

Emphasising on sustainability in power, Shri Amal Sinha, Director, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited & BSES Yamuna Power Limited, said: “At BSES, our mission extends beyond providing reliable power, it is about creating a brighter and a more sustainable future. As a leading power discom in the national capital, we play a vital role in balancing growth with environmental responsibility. With ambitious goals, we are on the path to achieving a green power portfolio comprising over half of our energy sources-making BSES one of India’s greenest power discoms.”

Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, shared: “India is in a prime position today, with the much evident infrastructure development across various sectors. The Lighting and LED industry, in particular, has benefited from timely and effective government support, accelerating its growth along with infrastructure boom in India. Since the launch of the Ujala Scheme, we have witnessed technological advancements and the industry’s swift alignment with global trends. It is encouraging to see new exhibitors joining us every year, reflecting our upward trajectory. I feel delighted that this year the participation from lighting automation companies has grown and it aligns with the future of intelligent lighting solutions. We anticipate that with innovations and manufacturing growth in India our dependency on the imported components for LED and light will reduce, powered by the schemes like PLI, which strengthens the industry.”

India is witnessing a fast-track growth of products and technologies in automations and tech-based solutions with support from Internet of things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), sensors, wireless controls and more. The opportunities to customise and innovate in manufacturing coupled with the momentum of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat are boosting the industry. The need for intelligent lighting solutions and energy efficiency features are seeing an uptick in architecture, interior design, construction, quality control and safety solutions, hospitality, automotive, commercial spaces, events and entertainment, industrial and electronics, among many more and are here to stay.

The three-day event, Light India + LED Expo India will conclude on 23rd November 2024. Light + LED Expo India is part of Messe Frankfurt’s Light + Building Technology fair portfolio, which is headlined by the biennial Light + Building event in Frankfurt, Germany.

Visitors to the LiGHT 24 exhibition have the unique opportunity to view the never-before-seen, exclusively created art installation ‘Intra-spectrum’ by accomplished artist Frankie Boyle, powered by leading architectural lighting manufacturer formalighting.

Frankie Boyle is a renowned Experiential Creative Director and Artist specialising in immersive and experiential design, with a profound focus on light and colour theory. With over a decade of experience in the event and lighting industries, she is recognised for crafting innovative installations and experiences that guide audiences through transformative emotional journeys.

Frankie’s work revolves around human behaviour and the connection to our primal selves. The brand-new Intra-spectrum installation will be in a prime location at the main entrance and exit between the main exhibition space and the [d]arc thoughts conference. The installation will aim to ignite and resurface memories and emotions as visitors journey through the space.

LiGHT 24 will also be hosting an open Q&A session with Frankie on the 20th of November at 4.20 PM, where she will delve deeper into the inspiration and design process behind the installation. This will take place in the [d]arc thoughts talks space on the Gallery Level of the event.

This art piece has been uniquely created to give the audience at LiGHT 24 a unique immersive experience. Intra-spectrum has taken inspiration from Frankie’s recent explorations of the narrative of consciousness and subconscious within her body of work through the harmony of reflection and refraction. Frankie said, “I want people to immerse themselves within the light that we shine and the light that we hold within through an array of beautiful invigorating colours. This installation is all about eliciting introspection and connection. For anyone experiencing this installation, I would want them to connect to their inner selves and to have the opportunity to just be present – finding that pause, to stop and stare and immerse.”

Frankie was delighted to have her concept sponsored by formalighting. She adds, “I’m a big believer in collaboration – it makes a project so much richer. I’m looking forward to merging products with design and going hand in hand on the journey for the benefit of everyone – enhancing and enriching the installation and experience.”

Commenting on the collaboration, formalighting’s Sharon Maghnagi, Global Operations Director, says, “formalighting is ecstatic to be supporting the Frankie Boyle art installation at LiGHT 24. As a company we strive towards innovation in our product development with a specific focus on lighting art galleries and museum applications.

“Collaborating with Frankie as a light artist further helps us realise this vision, as it challenges us to research the best possible technical solutions to create the desired lit effect. Frankie’s vision and design approach makes the process and unveiling something that personally the team are excited to be a part of and we really look forward to hearing the feedback of the LiGHT 24 visitors. Congratulations to the team at [d]arc media for adding such an immersive element to this year’s show!”

When asked what she is most looking forward to experiencing at LiGHT 24, Frankie shared that it was “People’s reactions, seeing and hearing how this installation affects them.”

LiGHT 24 takes place at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, on 20th and 21st November 2024.

Urbanisation and the high demand for living space create challenges for cities: new buildings are expensive and many properties remain empty. Flexible utilisation concepts and sustainable renovations are in demand. Intelligent spatial planning integrates energy-efficient technologies, smart infrastructure, renewable energies and intelligent lighting concepts. Light + Building from 8th to 13th March 2026 in Frankfurt am Main will showcase these innovations. Exhibitors can register now for the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology.

Companies that declare their participation by 30th April 2025 will benefit from the attractive early bird price. After that, the regular stand rental prices will apply. All information on participation at: www.light-building.com/intention-exhibit

The world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology is the international meeting place for manufacturers from the fields of lighting, electrical engineering, home and building automation and connected security technology. Planning for the 2026 event has already begun.

Steffen Larbig provides an initial outlook: “My experienced team, our partners and I are working hard to continue the success story of Light + Building in 2026. There are already many exciting projects on the horizon that will characterise the industry meeting place. I can therefore already say that it will be an attractive platform for architects, interior architects, designers, planners and engineers as well as for trade, commerce and industry across all trades in a very international and attractive environment in the centre of Frankfurt and in the heart of Europe. We are looking forward to talking to all the companies that want to take part in order to create the best possible conditions for the presentation of their respective companies, personal meetings with customers and, of course, business.”

Be Electrified – Electrifying Places. Illuminating Spaces.

The motto of the international innovation show in 2026 is ‘Be Electrified – Electrifying Places. Illuminating Spaces.’ This underlines what has been driving the lighting and building services technology sectors for a long time. “The electrification and digitalisation of existing buildings in particular continue to be major and fundamental topics,” explains Steffen Larbig, Brand Manager of Light + Building.

The addition of ‘Electrifying Places’ and ‘Illuminating Spaces’ places the two major core areas of lighting and building technology directly at the centre: Electrifying Places refers to the constant development and connectivity of urban spaces and the need to efficiently electrify buildings and supply them with electricity in a sustainable way. Illuminating Spaces focuses on the design aspects of lighting technology. Whether indoors or outdoors, lighting is more than just a functional light source. Design, material and styling combine harmoniously with architecture and surroundings and directly characterise the emotional experience of a space.

The international network of Light + Building consists of 14 trade fairs worldwide. Spread around the world, they offer companies access to the growth markets in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North and South America. Depending on the regional conditions, the various trades from the lighting and building technology sectors present themselves here. An overview of all the events in the portfolio can be found at: www.light-building.com/brand.

Showlight is proud to offer a sponsorship scheme for a number of students and recent graduates of university, college or school courses related to lighting for the performing arts, events, broadcast, film and architecture.

The organisers are now inviting international students to apply for placements which allow free of charge entry to Showlight 2025 in Dijon, France from 19th – 22nd May 2025. At least 30 places are up for grabs, and you’ll need to be available for the entire four days as they will be packed with special events you won’t want to miss!

All students get to enjoy the full Programme of Papers, admission to the accompanying exhibition of major lighting equipment manufacturers between Papers Sessions, the networking opportunities of the daily morning and afternoon tea breaks and lunch, as well as a place at one of the Company Dinners on the Tuesday evening and the Conference Dinner on Wednesday evening.

Also included is participation in the new Showlight workshops on the Wednesday afternoon, and inclusion in a series of creative tasks Showlight has planned for students to design, build and pitch to the rest of the conference. Student coordinator, James Simpson, will also be running some introductory workshops for students to get to know each other and to help them get the most out of the conference, including networking both online and offline.

Each successful applicant is sponsored by one of the Showlight exhibitors and will receive a £500.00 stipend to put towards their travel and accommodation. In return, each student is requested to make themselves available to their sponsor to help with their stand fit up on Monday 19th May and the de-rig on Thursday 22nd May and will benefit from being part of the team during the exhibition opening times. Stands are small so this is an easy set up and a chance to build a relationship with your sponsor, get to know key people from their team and what it is to take part in a bespoke exhibition.

Showlight is an invaluable environment for those just starting their careers in lighting to network with and learn from established professionals and potential future employees within the industry. It also enables you to make new friends from other educational establishments who will be going into the same industry as you.

If you are attending – or have recently graduated from – one of these courses and want to be involved, submit your application via the link on the Showlight website at https://www.showlight.org/students. Please answer all questions and provide a link to your portfolio and/or LinkedIn profile, or other professional social media site, as part of the selection process.
